ROYAL CITY - El Dorado Stone of Royal City was chosen No. 1 in 2014 among the plants that produce decorative stone veneer for Headwaters, Inc.

El Dorado Stone Royal City was chosen by a vote of senior management at Headwaters. Plant General Manager Robert Aguilar was presented the award at a plant managers meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah.

According to Aguilar, El Dorado Royal City was chosen for safety improvements, improvements in the work area and environment and quality of product.

The plant has a full-time work force of 150 people year-around. Aguilar said turnover has gone down, largely because of the improvements at the plant.

Sales and production are up by five percent this year over the same time last year, Aguilar said. He said Canada is still 55 to 60 percent of the Royal City plant's market.

There are several El Dorado Stone plants across the U.S. and Mexico. They all serve different markets. In addition to Canada, El Dorado Stone Royal City is growing in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

Aguilar expects that the plant will have outdone 2014 at the end of the current fiscal year on Sept. 30. He expects the next cycle to start just as hot.

"That's when we start building our winter orders for the Canadian Market," he said.
