Robert Edward Teslow

September 11, 1924 - July 21, 2015

Robert Edward Teslow (Bob), age 90, passed away July 21, 2015 at his home in Moses Lake. He was born in Seattle, Wash. Sept. 11, 1924 to Edward E. and Jenny L. (Olson) Teslow. Bob grew up in Grand Coulee with his five siblings, Mildred, Gladice, Verna, Tiny and Clifford. His family has always been a loving, close family and has remained so over these many years. After graduation, Dad couldn't wait to join the Navy and fight for his country. He served on the Destroyer USS OWEN and participated in 11 major battles. Dad was always a very patriotic man and we loved hearing him tell us about his time in the service. You very seldom saw him without his WWII cap on.

He married Betty Jean Walker in 1948 and settled in Moses Lake where he raised his family. He was a welder-pipefitter for Local Union #598 for 40-plus years. He worked and supervised construction on scores of industrial and commercial projects throughout Eastern Washington from Alaska to Oregon. His abilities as a craftsman and leader were admired by his peers, young and old, and sought after by his employers. His hardworking, congenial personality turned an eight-hour workday into a gathering of friends that they all looked forward to.

Dad was an avid fisherman and hunter. One of his greatest joys was going camping in Republic with his kids and grandkids. He had a very kind, compassionate soul. Every dog he ever owned (and he was never without one or two) became a member of the family. When our mother had a stroke at age 60, with some paralysis, Dad stepped up and became chief cook and bottlewasher for almost 25 years.

Bob is survived by his wife Betty, of 67 years; daughters Robyn (Dick) Hansen and Cindy (Randy) Fish; sisters Mildred Johnson, Gladice Sharp and Tiny Rawley; brother Clifford (Sandy) Teslow; grandchildren Bryan (Lisa) Hansen, Brent (Jennifer) Hansen, Ryan Fish and Austyn (Chas) Fournie, and great-grandchildren Teighlor (Cody), Derek, Morgan, Wyatt as well as numerous nieces and nephews he loved deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Jenny; sister Verna Waters; nephew Edward Francis Teslow; four very special brothers-in-law Don Johnson, Bill Sharp, Jim Waters and Stan Rawley and lifelong friend Dale Durbin.

We can't thank Eva (Dad's caregiver) enough for all she did for our dad and continues to do for our mom. We would like to thank Dad's close neighbors, whom he considered friends, some of whom virtually came to his rescue more than once.

We would also like to thank Dr. Earl and his staff for their expert, compassionate care of our dad.

Trying to summarize our dad's life and the type of man he was in a limited amount of words is impossible. We were all so fortunate to have such a strong, supportive, loving man in our lives - it makes it so hard to say good-bye.

Thank you to all who were a part of our dad's life.

As per Dad's request, a private military service will be held at Guarding Angels Cemetery. We honor his wishes. Sign the online guestbook at www.kayserschapel.com. Arrangements in care of Kayser's Chapel.
