Charges filed in fake home rental in Desert Aire

DESERT AIRE - A Desert Aire man pleaded not guilty recently in Superior Court to burglary and theft charges stemming from a strange rental of a home.

The case involves a June 19 incident in which the man allegedly rented a house that did not belong to him to somebody else for a party. Sadan E. Perez, 20, of Desert Aire, pleaded not guilty to residential burglary and third-degree theft.

According to police records, Sheriff's Office personnel responded to a report of a burglary in process in Desert Aire on June 19.

Officers reported to a residence and spoke with the homeowner, who told police he arrived at his house, and the front door was not locked. He said he found party supplies on the counter and noticed the shower had just been used.

The homeowner reportedly walked into the garage and found a man, later identified as Perez, hiding there. Perez allegedly told the homeowner he had been staying in the house for two days. The homeowner reportedly held Perez at the residence until police arrived.

Perez refused to speak to officers, records say.

During the investigation, a female showed up at the home and asked police if she could grab her party supplies, according to police records.

The girl reportedly stated that she saw a Facebook post from Perez on June 17 in which Perez said he had his uncle's house until November and to contact him to throw a party there.

The girl reportedly contacted Perez about her 17th birthday party at the house he claimed was his uncle's. Perez allegedly charged the girl $100 to use the house.

The girl stated she went to the house June 19 with party glow supplies, including balloons and a speaker, and then left. When she returned later that day, police were there, she said.

According to police records, the girl stated she was under the impression the house belonged to Perez's uncle, and she had nothing to do with breaking into the residence.

She reportedly apologized to the homeowners and was permitted to leave the scene.

The homeowners also advised police pictures were removed from their walls and about $200 worth of items, including hats and swimsuits, were missing from the home.
