Thank our local firefighters
With all of the fires in our area this summer, we think it's a good time to thank our local firefighters for their service and hard work.
A firefighter's job can be and often is 24-7. At a moment's notice, a fireman can be called out of bed to put his life on the line. Protecting lives and property in dangerous conditions and inclement weather are all in a day's work. Smoke, burning buildings, upset people and scared animals are added to the mix. Witnessing loss of life is yet another.
We can't pretend to understand what kind of day that would be, or how firefighters retain their composure and professionalism. Firefighters have the added responsibility of doing their work safely, so they can prevent further loss and return home to their families.
There have been several fires in the past month in Grant County and Adams County, fueled in part by the dry conditions and winds. A fire and subsequent explosion on Friday at Inland Tarp & Cover brought out several local agencies, including Moses Lake Fire Department, the city of Ephrata, the Port of Moses Lake, and Fire Districts No. 3, No. 4 and No. 13. Their work in fighting and containing the fire was impressive. It is truly amazing and a testament to their efforts that no one was hurt.
So many agencies have helped fight blazes in our coverage area recently, including fires near Quincy, Ephrata, Soap Lake and George. We appreciate all of the agencies, employees and volunteers so much. There are so many individuals to thank, we won't even try. Instead, we thank the profession for the important service it provides and the families who support their firefighter spouses. Please know your efforts have been noticed and appreciated.
