New R Club will launch
ROYAL CITY - When you visit the all-school reunion for SummerFest on Friday, be sure to seek out and visit the R Club booth.
R Club is brand new, founded by 17 current Royal High student-athletes under the direction of Royal High teacher Rick Mitchell. It is sort of a letterman's club, they said, but it involves the whole community.
"One of their goals will be to create, as best they can, an Athletic Archive of Royal sports from 1964 to the present," Mitchell said.
R Club representatives will be at the meet and greet registration at the middle school. They would like all former RHS athletes to sign the guest book to start a flow of communication.
"This would allow us to send updates on the teams throughout the course of the year," Mitchell said.
An exclusive R Club Alumni men's shirt No. 1 and R Club Alumni women's shirt No. 1 will be offered in a raffle.
The screens for these two shirts will never be used again, Mitchell said. Only 100 tickets will be sold for each shirt.
"Be sure to look for the R Club table on Friday night, and help the R club get off the ground," Mitchell said.
