Fireworks a danger to wildlife and humans, too

It is difficult to understand why fireworks haven't been banned this year. We aren't talking about the major fireworks by the city, but the fireworks in the rest of the city and in the county have us worried this year.

We live in the housing area of what was Larson Air Force Base. Every year there are large displays of fireworks throughout our housing area. We have seen houses burn and other fires start because of these aerial displays.

It isn't because we are against the celebration, if the rockets and sparklers and other pyrotechnics are used in a common sense manner. The aerial displays are beautiful and it is great to truly see the rocket's red glare.

If the wind is blowing, don't set off Roman candles, bottle rockets or anything going into the air. It just isn't worth causing damage to property.

A few days after July 4th last year, I found one of my neighbors inspecting the windshield of his vehicle. He thought someone had hit the glass with a BB. It looked similar to such an incident, but a bit different, too. Plus we found more of these spots or pits.
