Lioness Club donates money to Moses Lake Senior Center
MOSES LAKE - The Lioness Club of Moses Lake, one of the most active and generous charitable organizations in Grant County, recently gave a donation of $1000 to the Moses Lake Senior Center and also purchased holiday gifts for Meals on Wheels recipients.
Donations to the senior center are not new for the women of Lioness, noted Carry Liles, general manager of the Moses Lake Senior Center. There is a long list of projects that have benefited from Lioness.
"The Lioness Club of Moses Lake has done so much for the Senior Center, like repairing/replacing bathrooms in our building, purchasing tickets to our Mother's Day Breakfast to assisting with our Nutrition Program and advertising in our monthly newsletter," Liles said. "We are grateful for all their contributions. This most recent donation to assist with our Meals on Wheels program and helping out those who wouldn't receive gifts this holiday season were both very much appreciated."
The Moses Lake Senior Center was established in 1972 through the help and dedication of Sally McLanahan and other volunteers. The center has 777 members, and it serves thousands of people every year.
The senior center provides a nutrition program in Grant County. It delivers meals to seniors who otherwise might not get a nutritious meal. It serves about 11,450 meals a year.
The Senior Center provides a place for seniors to play pool, cards, bingo and to learn computer skills. There is a dance once a week and exercise programs five days a week. The Senior Center also provides bus trips to different Washington State locations for shopping and entertainment.
"These activities help keep the seniors young at heart as well as healthy," Liles said.
The Moses Lake Senior Center is located at 608 East 3rd Avenue in Moses Lake. It can be contacted at 509-765-7809.
One purpose of the Lioness Club of Moses Lake is to cooperate with the Moses Lake Lions Club in its philanthropic projects. The Lioness Club of Moses Lake is a non-profit organization with ongoing projects such as scholarships.
These are funded by the club's efforts at the Spaceburger Booth at the Grant County Fair. The long lines the public form at the booth means more people in need will be served.
To help support the community, Lioness Michaelle Boetger said, county women should consider joining the Lioness Club of Moses Lake. Membership is open to women age 18 and over.
Meetings are held the third Monday of each month at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at 1020 South A Street in Moses Lake at 6:30 p.m.
