Othello man arrested on warrant

MOSES LAKE - Carlos Rodriguez, 35, of Othello, was arrested Tuesday after he was allegedly caught stealing and running away from police. He also had a community custody escape warrant out for his arrest.
About 1:50 p.m., the Moses Lake Police Department received a theft report at the Moses Lake Walmart, located at 1005 N. Stratford Rd.
Rodriguez was allegedly seen hiding merchandise in his jacket, and was contacted by store employees and an officer as he was leaving the store, according to police records.
Rodriguez reportedly ran away and was later found and arrested. The stolen items were found near the area he was arrested.
When Rodriguez was questioned by police, he was allegedly uncooperative and gave officers a false name and date of birth.
Rodriguez's identity was later verified and he was found to have a state Department of Corrections arrest warrant for escaping community custody.
A person is guilty of escaping community custody when they stop being available to the DOC for supervision by failing to inform the appropriate official where they're at, or by failing to maintain contact with the DOC, according to the Revised Code of Washington.
Rodriguez was booked into Grant County Jail on a warrant and on suspicion of third-degree theft, resisting arrest, making false statements and escaping community custody.
