Dave Graybill: The Fishin' Magician

The big news at the NW Ice Fishing Festival in Molson this year was that people caught fish! Yup. During the Festivals of 2012 through 2014 there were no fish caught at all. This year's event was moved to January 17th and it made a huge difference. There was 14 to 18 inches of ice on the lake, but anglers swept off deep snow and drilled through it to get to the trout. A total of 86 anglers registered for the fishing aspect of the festival, and there were trout from 10 to 18 inches caught. The grand prize winner for two fish weighing just over four pounds won the $500.00 cash prize donated by Hughes Department Store in Oroville. It was very pleased to hear of the fishing success at this year's event. The community really turns out to make this derby a great time to all those who attend, and getting fish made it even better. People, including myself, had a wonderful time in Molson even when there were not fish caught at all. Congrats Molson for moving the date and putting on a terrific event.
