MATTAWA - Wahluke High School dropped two boys basketball games last week, falling to Cascade, 57-31, and Royal, 59-51.

The Cascade contest was a case of a quick short team running into a quick tall team. There was too much of a difference in height.

"If we stopped them inside, they beat us outside," coach Jeff Ahmann said.

The Kodiaks have a 6-6 post who knows how to play the inside. They also have several boys who can sink 3-pointers. The team shot 50 percent from the field.

"If we double teamed the post, they kicked it out to their 3-point shooters," Ahmann said.

The Kodiaks made six three-pointers for the game.

Wahluke was led by 6-3 post Collin Ahmann. He had nearly half of the Warrior production, scoring 14 points.

Ahmann was strong again against Royal, with 19 points, but he had strong backing from Nathan Buck with 12.

Still, they were not enough to offset Royal's top three, who combined for 45 points.

Royal jumped ahead, 15-5, in the first quarter and still held a 10-point margin after three periods. The Knights shot 60 percent from 2-point range.

Wahluke will play at Kittitas on Thursday and host River View on Friday.
