MATTAWA - Last week was rough for the Wahluke boys in prep basketball. They fell to Tri-Cities Prep, 73-45, Burbank, 56-46, and Kiona-Benton, 57-46.

"TCP was a chance to redeem ourselves from last year's 20-point loss, but it wasn't our night," coach Jeff Ahmann said.

TCP hit eight straight shots in the fourth quarter to outscore the Warriors, 23-11.

Collin Ahmann led Wahluke with 15 points. Nathan Buck and Alex Chiprez added nine each.

The loss to Burbank dropped Wahluke to 0-2 in the SCAC. The bright spots for Wahluke were Collin Ahmann's 22 points and Ethayn Kinney's 18.

"Both games we could have won, but that won't happen too often shooting 30 percent from the field," Coach Ahmann said.

But Coach Ahmann is pleased with the effort. He said the boys are playing hard and have great attitudes.

"Our press is working well because we average 15 more shot attempts than our opponents," he said. "We also average about 10 more free throw attempts."

Ki-Be finished second in league last season and has all of its starters returning and is the easy pick to win the league this year.

Ki-Be hit 17 free throws in the first half to take a 37-22 half-time lead. But the Warriors continued to battle and slowly fought back to within six points in the fourth quarter. But the ball stopped falling.

Collin Ahmann was hot again with 23 points. Kinney had eight points, and Chiprez added seven.
