MATTAWA - It is interesting to note that National Healthy Weight Week falls in January, immediately after the holidays, when the majority of us might have gained a few pounds.

Hmmm...some of us may have already resolved to lose those pounds. However, the objective of National Healthy Weight Week is not for all of us to go on weight reduction diets.

Rather, it celebrates healthy living habits that last a lifetime and prevents eating and weight problems. We are challenged to strengthen our resolves to be healthier and live active lives.

We are encouraged to eat at regular times, typically three meals, and snacks to satisfy our hunger. That way we won't walk around feeling hungry and yield to the temptation to eat the wrong things.

To help achieve a goal of improved health and wellness, the Columbia Basin Health Association and Anytime Fitness have partnered to offer a fitness challenge that is designed to help everyone determine and make healthier choices.

The program promotes long term weight management, which may include but is not limited to weight loss, through exercise and nutritious food choices. The program begins with a Dexascan to determine a baseline body fat analysis, followed by a consultation with a CBHA nutritionist.

The program also includes education sessions and support of Anytime Fitness and CBHA staff.

The CBHA and Anytime Fitness in Othello are offering several options to patients, ranging from one that is free of charge to several offering different levels for different prices.

Participants who like an element of competition to reach their goals can choose that option and compete for prize money.

The program was scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 12. However, there is still time for anyone interested to participate.

You may contact the Marketing Department at CBHA (509-488-5256, Ex. 2043) for more information. Janelle Anderson of Anytime Fitness can be reached at 509-488-3484.
