Basin comes together for Love of Lisa

MOSES LAKE - About 140 people from around the Basin packed the Columbia Basin Elks Lodge Saturday in support of a Quincy woman who has fallen on hard times.

As many Basin residents were gathered around their television sets cheering on the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs Saturday, family and friends of Quincy resident Lisa Barth gathered at the Elks Lodge in Moses Lake at the "For the Love of Lisa" benefit dinner to raise funds for Barth's medical bills. Initial figures show about $26,000 was raised.

In August, Barth was hospitalized with internal bleeding and received emergency surgery. She was later airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. She remained in Seattle for a couple months while undergoing more surgeries. She was discharged from the hospital and is continuing her treatment.

The Champion 4-H Club, which Barth formed more than 10 years ago, decided they wanted to give back to the woman who had given so much to them over the years.

Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Debbie Doran-Martinez, whose daughter is a member of the Champion 4-H Club, said the six Champion 4-H Club members came up with and organized the benefit.

"She is an amazing woman who gives so much to the kids and really treats them like her own," said Doran-Martinez. "The club really put this all together, and the chamber handled more of the logistics side of it."

The benefit included a silent and live auction, a dinner catered by Top Gun Concessions and Catering and a performance by the Rock'n B Cloggers.

There were about 95 items going as high as $300 in the silent auction. The auction items were donated from numerous Basin businesses and residents.

"When I heard they wanted to do some sort of benefit for me I originally thought no," remarked Barth. "I have seen over the years many people throughout the Basin at the receiving end of the generosity of others. But I truly never thought that I would be at the receiving end of it."

The generosity Barth referenced was in full effect at the benefit. Doran-Martinez said the Chamber sold 125 tickets, priced $40 each or $75 for two, in advance of the benefit itself. She also said there were about 15 tickets bought at the door.

The live auction portion of the night also featured numerous items to bid on, from a Michael's On The Lake gift certificate, to a rafting trip on the Wenatchee River.

The live auction also brought Barth's brother Chuck Yarbro Jr., of the Moses Lake-based auctioneering company Chuck Yarbro Auctioneers, to handle the live auction portion of the night.

"It is overwhelming, it's so special to feel the support here tonight, to know there are people who care enough to support me through this," said Barth. "It is humbling."

Barth said she is not where she wants to be with her health, but said she is taking steps in the right direction with her health and has been feeling better.
