Mary Ruth Hayano
Mary Ruth Hayano, 66, of Moses Lake passed away peacefully on Dec. 31, 2014 at her home. She was born June 23, 1948 in Miles City, Mont., to Tom and Fujiko(Lilly) Hayano. Mary moved to Moses Lake at the age of 10, attended Moses Lake schools and graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1966. She attended BBCC and WSU, graduating with a degree in teaching. Mary spent her life living in Moses Lake, Zillah, and Honolulu, Hawaii where her career included teaching at the high school level, mainly in the business department. Mary loved the Hawaiian sunshine, the beach, and the many beautiful flowers. If you couldn't see it yourself, she would send you a calendar every year so that you could enjoy it with her. Mary had many cherished friends wherever she lived. Most recently Mary lived at the Crystal Springs Adult Family Home where she was cared for as part of the family. Mary was preceded in death by her mother Lilly Hayano, Uncle Bill Kataoka, and Uncle Chuck Kataoka. She is survived by one sister, Janet Schafer, nephew Stuart Blackburn and his wife Michelle and their daughter Jessica, all of Vancouver. Mary is also survived by aunts Ruth Nishioka of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Maxine Sawada of Kennewick; and Shirley Kong of San Jose, Calif; cousins Dianne Nishioka, Judy Nishioka, Joyce Kataoka of Boise, Idaho; Rick Kataoka of Lynnwood, Shirley Chastain of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Carey Sawada of Vancouver, and Rachel Kong, of San Jose, Calif.
