Alice LaVonne Meseberg

| January 7, 2015 5:00 AM

Alice LaVonne Meseberg was born on October 10, 1927 and raised on a cattle and chicken farm in Carthage, South Dakota. She earned good grades in the one room schoolhouse she attended where her mother taught grades 1-8 under one roof. She completed high school at Carthage High and then joined the Navy Cadet Nursing Corps in 1944 where she earned a RN degree. Her mother was Alice Pauline Olson Anderson and her father was Ernest Siegfried Anderson. After graduating from nurses training Alice met Rodney Meseberg (1927-1999) and they were married in 1950. The young couple moved to Miles City, Montana where Alice worked as a nurse and Rodney worked on the railroad as a mechanic. 1951 brought son David Wayne and in 1952 another son was born, Michael A.

The Boeing Company offered Rodney an opportunity to move from Miles City to Seattle where Rod became an apprentice machinist. Alice (Von) stayed home with the two young boys and took in neighboring children for babysitting. Alice eventually won a position at Boeing as an Industrial Nurse. Mom was a supportive wife and mother who always provided a quality way of family life while raising two energetic sons and supporting a husband that never stopped working and furthering himself through night school.

On a fishing trip in the early 70's Alice sat in the MarDon Resort Café to avoid the 102 degree temp in August. She could not help but overhear the current owner telling his wife that they must sell the resort. On their return home to Seattle she shared this information with Rodney. She also said for him to never take her back to that godforsaken place, MarDon! Rodney was a visionary and at that exact moment began the plans to buy Mardon Resort and move his family to Potholes Reservoir. On April 6, 1972 the Meseberg Family began the work of making MarDon a family resort. Mom worked at the resort until the early 90's when she retired. Her heart was always with her two sons and their families as they continued on with the family business. After 43 years Alice LaVonne Meseberg finished her time here. She died peacefully on Dec 27th in the company of her two loving sons. She was 87 years old. She was always there for us and will be missed forever.

Alice (Von) was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Rodney. She is survived by her brother, John H. Anderson (Mary) of St. Louis, MO., her sons, David W. and Michael A. (Marilyn). Grandchildren, M. Levi (Kellee), Troy, Shaun (Megan) Meseberg and Annie (Brian) Baltzell. Great grandchildren, Autumn & Silar (Troy), Mason & Lillee (Levi), Keira & Maverick (Shaun) and Sydney (Annie).

A private service will be held for Mom and her cremated remains will be spread with Rodney's ashes. In lieu of flowers please send a card or you may make a donation to our Potholes Reservoir Fish Habitat project, CWFAC, a 501-C3. 8198 Hwy 262 SE, Othello, WA 99344
