Fishin' Magician: Dave Graybill
While I am attending a meeting near Washington D.C., I'm missing out on some great fishing at home. High on my list of where I would like to be is Lake Roosevelt, Lake Chelan and Rocky Ford Creek, near Ephrata. Right now is when the fishing for big kokanee, and I am talking about 3 or 4 pounds is the best of the season on Roosevelt.
Anglers launch at Spring Canyon and fish right near here or run up to the Swawilla Basin. While fishing for the kokanee they catch rainbow that average 16 inches or even bigger. Good catches of kokanee are already being posted on Lake Chelan. Anglers are trolling deep, and I mean 75 to 200 feet deep for their fish. Limits can be had on a good day and most of the kokanee fall into the 11- to 15-inch category.
We're having some pretty warm weather and not much wind, so being out on Lake Chelan at this time of year is no big deal. I caught a huge rainbow on my last trip to Rocky Ford a couple of weeks ago and I want to rig up my fly rod and see if I can find him again.
