ROYAL CITY - The Royal High School dance team, which will perform at the basketball game this Friday, has started its season with a pair of victories.

There are 13 girls on the team, including senior co-captain Hannah Larson, senior co-captain Kailee Harris. The other seniors are Robin Grant, Sam Eilers and Jacky Guadarrama.

The juniors are co-captain Charity Robbins, co-captain Lindsey Small, Ashley Valle, Lauren Pratt, Sam Delarosa, Lucia Aguirre, Amanda Conger and Hannah Fanning.

The coaches are Michelle Schonewald and Patty Robbins.

Dance is no easy matter, according to team member Robin Grant. Three to five mornings a week the girls practice at 6 a.m., she said. They also practice during the of-season.

In their first competition, on Jan. 17, the dancing Knights took first place in Transformers Military Dance at Rogers High School in Spokane. Their second trophy came last Saturday, Jan. 31, in the overall military category at the Snowflake Glimmer Dance at Quincy High School.

The competition season will continue on Valentine's Day, Saturday, Feb. 14, at Moses Lake High School. The district dance meet will be held on March 7. If the Royal girls score high enough there, they will advance to the state meet on March 27.

This Friday's performance at the high school gym at 7 p.m. will be the Daddy-Daughter Dance.
