Quincy teenager hurt in collision with truck and trailer

QUINCY – A Quincy teenager was injured when the car he was driving collided with a truck and trailer near here on Dec. 3

According to the Washington State Patrol, the accident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 281 and Road 9 NW. The Patrol said neither alcohol nor drugs was a factor.

The injured teen is Jesus A. Mendoza, 17. He was driving a white 2005 Mercury Mountaineer. He was wearing his seat belt. He was transported by ambulance to Quincy Medical Center.

According to the WSP, Mendoza, who was traveling westbound on Road 9 NW, failed to yield right-of-way at a stop sign at Highway 281. His Mountaineer struck a northbound yellow 1999 International truck and trailer.

The truck was driven by Ronald D. Scharff, 60, of Spokane. He was wearing his seat belt and was not injured. The truck sustained reportable damage, but it was driven from the scene.

Mendoza was cited by the State Patrol of failure to yield right-of-way.
