Kaden Jenks named WIAA Athlete of the Week
ROYAL CITY — For the second time in three weeks, a Royal High football player has been named the class 1A athlete of the week by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.
According to the WIAA, someone in the community nominated Jenks. WIAA staff agreed and voted him the winner.
Each week throughout the school year, the WIAA recognizes 12 varsity athletes, a male and a female from each of the six classifications, who gave an outstanding performance in the previous week.
Jenks, a hard-running 6-2, 200 junior who has quarterbacked Royal for three years, was recognized for his effort in the 47-7 semifinal win over Connell in the state playoffs two weekends ago.
Jenks passed for four touchdowns and ran for one. His touchdown passes were from 61, 10, 52, and 17 yards.
Two weeks earlier, Royal running back Joe Lang was given the same award of his efforts in a 69-0 first-round win over Charles Wright.
Jenks will receive a congratulatory letter from WIAA Executive Director Mike Colbrese, a commemorative WIAA State Athlete of the Week t-shirt, and a certificate. Winners are also posted to the WIAA website at www.wiaa.com
