Lois Ann Schutt
December 6, 1951 – December 8, 2015
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lois Ann (Brown) Schutt, 64, of Soap Lake, Wash. Lois passed with family by her side on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015 at Sacred Heart in Spokane, Washington.
The daughter of Robert and Delma (Olin) Brown, Lois was born Dec. 6, 1951 in Soap Lake, Wash. She was raised in Coulee City and later moved to Hartline where she raised her two daughters.
The love and compassion of this dear daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend will forever be missed. Friends and family describe her as always smiling, never being seen having a bad day. Lois had a great love of the outdoors; ice skating, gold panning, hunting for treasures with her metal detector, tending her garden, kayaking, picking wildflowers, and so much more. She was incredibly talented, and showed this in her love of music. At 15 after hearing her mother hum “You Are My Sunshine”, Lois began playing it by ear on her new guitar – years later she would sing this song to her children and grandchildren. She also loved crafts; crocheting, sewing, and knitting beautiful gifts for family and friends.
Lois created a lasting impression on the communities she lived and worked in. Coulee City was blessed by the beautifully prepared treats at her bakery, and later at the Big Wally’s sweet shop. In Hartline she worked as a rural mail carrier for the post office, as well as playing organ and piano at the Assembly of God Church. She then assisted the Ephrata and greater Grant County communities as control room operator and clerk at the county jail. She took great pride in the role she served at the jail and gained a new extended family of close friends.
Continually expressing her love for her family, Lois took joy in meticulously researching and recording family history. She never missed a family reunion, often recalling stories of the close relationships she and her fifty-plus cousins shared. Lois was incredibly proud of her daughters, and described her grandchildren as her “special blessings.” Her children and grandchildren were Lois’ world.
Lois is preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Rae Brown. She is survived by her father Robert Brown, mother Delma (Olin) Brown, brothers Arthur (Art) and William (Bill) Brown; daughters Sarah Schutt and Cassie (Schutt) Kelton; grandchildren Chloe and Gabriel Kelton; and niece Sacheen Reynolds.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015 at the Coulee City Presbyterian Church, with a potluck luncheon immediately following. A graveside at Highland Cemetery will be held on Friday, Dec. 18, 2015 – weather permitting.
