| December 8, 2015 12:45 PM

December 29, 1934 – December 5, 2015

Oscar Roiz Guerrero, 80, longtime resident of Moses Lake, our beloved father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, went home to be with our Lord on Dec. 5, 2015. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

Oscar was born Dec. 29, 1934 to Francisco Gonzalez-Guerrero and Maria Del Refugio Roiz in Crystal City, Texas. Oscar spent his early years as a migrant farmer working the farms from Texas to Montana. Oscar took advantage of every opportunity to improve his livelihood. He worked for the Great Northern Railroad Company, quickly advancing to a position of authority due to his strong work ethic. His journey eventually led him to Moses Lake, Wash. where he settled and became a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. Oscar helped erect and remodel many buildings here in Moses Lake and the surrounding areas of Grant County, most notably the Takata building, Moses Lake High School, businesses along Broadway Avenue and at the Hanford Nuclear Site. He built many homes for friends and families; he especially loved creating and crafting projects for his lovely wife, Martha.

Oscar’s passion was fishing. Often times when he needed quiet time from all the women in his life, you could find Oscar visiting the many fishing spots from north of Moses Lake to the Potholes Reservoir. He would regale us with many of his fishing stories especially with the one that got away.

Oscar took his role as the man in the family very seriously. He was the oldest of six siblings and a father to nine daughters whom he loved dearly. He strongly believed that being a good provider and protector was his ultimate purpose. He experienced and overcame many challenges in his life with humor and a strong sense of duty. He was an honorable man who was loved, respected and admired by many.

Oscar is preceded in death by his devoted wife, Martha Guerrero; his beloved daughter, Patricia Guerrero; his father Francisco Gonzalez-Guerrero and most revered mother, Maria Del Refugio Roiz; and two siblings, Rosa Guerrero Garcia and Minerva Gonzalez (Jesse).

Oscar is survived by his eight loving daughters: Linda Guerrero Garcia, Rachel Guerrero Topete, Marjorie Guerrero, Peggy Sue Guerrero, Sophia Guerrero, Lydia Guerrero, Gina Guerrero Jones, Natalie Guerrero Hopperstad (Ryan); 26 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

He is also survived by his siblings Consuelo Amaya (Clemente), Alicia Escobedo (Jose), Francisco II Guerrero (Josephine), Esequiel Guerrero (Irma), and Guadalupe Rodriguez (Alfonso) and their families.

Holy Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will be at the Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church Columbarium. Luncheon reception will follow at the Fatima Center. Please sign the online guestbook or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com. Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel & Crematory.

We would like to thank all of our father’s brothers, sisters, friends and healthcare professionals for their compassion in our father’s courageous battle against cancer. To family and friends for their love and support, may God’s comfort be with us all.
