July 3, 1929 – November 28, 2015

Mrs. Elsie Marie Hendricks, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 28. She left this life while under Hospice care and with her family around her in her home.

Elsie was born in Escalon, California on July 3, 1929. She grew up in Okanogan, Washington, with parents Earl and Laura Hamilton and siblings Jack, George and Faye. She met the love of her life, Gary Hendricks, by tackling him on the elementary school playground when they were both 10 years old. 10 years later, they were married and they spent the next 66 years together.

Elsie was “mom” to sons Chris and Don, and daughter Janice. She was “grandma” to their children and later, “grandma great” to theirs and she was loved greatly by each one. She had a wonderful way of making all of her family feel special; her home was filled with love.

While raising her family, Elsie found time to teach children in our public schools, minister to others as a deacon, elder and Stephen’s ministry leader at Moses Lake Presbyterian church, win the Moses Lake Country Club Women’s championship three times, and in retirement, travel all over the U.S. with husband Gary. At home, she was a wonderful cook and baker and shared those skills and delicious goodies (especially her pies) with family and many close friends.

Elsie left a wonderful life legacy of faith, love and kindness. Her loss will be deeply felt, but her life will continue to inspire us.

Elsie Hendricks was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Laura Hamilton; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Josephine and Clifford Hendricks; brother George Hamilton and sister-in-law Norma Hamilton; and brother-in-law Dick Laughbon. She is survived by brother Jack (Jo) Hamilton; sister Faye (Leo) Rubstello; sister-in-law Glenna Laughbon; husband Gary Hendricks;, sons Chris (Lori) and Don Hendricks; daughter Janice (Duane) Rooker; grandchildren Scott (Nikki) Mackey, Jennifer (Jesse) Martin, Maren (Mac) Hogland, Pamela Mackey, Shawn, Sarah, Shai, Samantha and Maddie Hendricks; and great-grandchildren Cassidy, Emeri, Devin, Finn, Rowan, Posey, Mackenna, Henry and Faye. Elsie is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and many brothers and sisters in Christ.

To honor and celebrate her life, a memorial service is being planned for January 2016. At the families’ request, please make any gifts in her memory as donations to The American Heart Association, or Assured Hospice of Grant County (1417 Pioneer Ave. in Moses Lake). You may sign the online guestbook or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com. Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel and Crematory.
