MATTAWA - The Mattawa area's annual Comm"Unity" Days celebration is coming up this weekend, Aug. 14-15. It will be celebrated at the city park and along the main street.

The community festival will be kicked off by Friday's kiddy parade on Government Way, starting at 5 p.m. All children are invited to participate. They will line up at 4:30 at Rio's Auto Ag.

Saturday will start with the usual free breakfast in the park at 8 a.m. The Wahluke Enrichment Organization will provide the cooks.

At the same time, there will be a Fun Color Run. It will raise funds for the Distinguished Young Woman Program and is directed by Shiree Zirker.

Registration will be held before the start of the run. T-shirts are limited and will be handed out on a first come, first served basis. The fee will be $25 for the 5K run and $20 for the mile run.

The grand parade will start at 11 a.m. and make its way down Government from the staging area at the schools. The lineup starts at 10 a.m.

After the parade, all of the activity will center at the park. There will be a salsa contest and a 3-on-3 hoops tournament. It will benefit Team Wahluke Basketball.
