Library summer program ends with party Aug. 13

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Public Library will wrap up the summer reading program with an "end of summer bash" from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 13.
"Superhero training camp" is targeted at preteens, with the library's own "comic con" for teens, said Allison Steward of the library. (The term comic con grew out of conventions of comic book enthusiasts. Lots of cities now have comic cons, gatherings of people interested in comics, gaming, science fiction and pop culture.)
Games, an obstacle course and a costume contest are among the activities. Admission is free.
The Moses Lake Museum & Art Center will be showing the 2014 film "Guardians of the Galaxy" during the afternoon. (It's a live-action film about superheroes.)
"Celebrating reading and literacy and the library," Steward said.
The North Central Regional Library system, which includes the Moses Lake Public Library, has been sponsoring the summer reading program for at least a quarter-century, Steward said. Every year is organized around a theme, and special events tied to the theme are presented at every library in the NCRL system.
In 2015 the special programs included visits by a children's book author, puppet shows and plays. Moses Lake firefighters and EMTs came to the library to talk about their jobs, and the Chelan County PUD partnered with NCRL for a presentation on hydropower and electrical generation.
