Business ready to shine at Comm'Unity' Days
MATTAWA - A new activity has been added to the 2015 Comm"Unity" Days program on Saturday, August 15.
The Mattawa Area Chamber of Commerce is organizing a sidewalk sale and raffle to promote local businesses.
According to Mattawa Chamber of Commerce member Maria Belen Ledezma, nearly 40 businesses are located on Government Way alone, from Boundary Road to the Port of Mattawa.
She added that many more businesses are located in Mattawa, Desert Aire, Beverly-Schawana or on the Wahluke Slope. With the sidewalk sale, guests at Comm"Unity" Days can learn about a business and see what it has to offer.
"All area businesses are invited to promote their goods or services with a table set up along the parade route," Ledezma said.
Right after the community breakfast, participating businesses will set up and man their tables. Participants will promote their businesses by selling products (thus a sidewalk sale) or they may pass out candy, bottled water, or promotional items/information about their businesses.
To encourage visitors to check out the businesses, the Chamber of Commerce will host several raffles. Maps showing the location of all participating businesses will be available at the place of business or on Saturday morning at the breakfast.
As people visit a table, the business will sign or stamp their maps. The signed maps will be tickets used for drawings of either:
1. Items donated by participating businesses.
2. Five dollar Gift Certificates purchased by the Mattawa Area Chamber of Commerce for use at a participating business.
The raffle drawings will be held in the park at approximately 2 p.m. A separate drawing for the participating businesses will result in the winner receiving a free 1-year membership in the Mattawa Area Chamber of Commerce and a free meal at the next Power Lunch.
"We think this activity will encourage people to explore some businesses that are new to them, and certainly the gift certificates could bring new customers to a participating business," Chamber President Brian Webb said. "We're also looking for new Chamber members and giving businesses a reason to join us."
Businesses interested in setting up a table or donating an item for the raffle should contact Maria Belen Ledezma at (509) 932-4045 before Aug. 7 to reserve a place on the map.
