MATTAWA - The annual Wahluke Jamboree, played at Desert Aire Golf Course last week, is a fun day for High School players from Royal City to Goldendale to Cle Elum.

The schools don't compete with each other. Players are grouped in foursomes or threesomes of mixed schools, they play a scramble and just have fun.

Last week was especially fun for Wahluke's Juan Lopez. He was the lone representative of his school, and his team won the day. But the victory didn't come easy.

The top two boys teams came in with scores of 67. That forced a sudden death hole. Lopez, a senior, provided a clutch chip shot that enabled his team to par and stay in the playoff after both teams parred.

Halen Waber of Highland, one of Lopez's teammates, won the playoff for his team by making the best chip in a chipoff.

The rest of Lopez's scramble team included Cody Robinson of Cle Elum and Tanner Skone of Warden.

"It was an exciting and fun finish," Wahluke coach Tiffany Hedman said.
