Projects moving ahead

| April 16, 2015 6:00 AM

ROYAL CITY - Other than receiving updates on infrastructure projects and plans, members of the Royal City Council didn't have a lot to do at their meeting of March 17.

Public Works Director John Lasen reported on progress of the installation of a manhole on Acacia Street near the Royal Coachman mobile home park.

There was a sewage backup in that area recently. After clearing it out, Lasen decided the best solution for the long haul would be a manhole.

Lasen reported that materials for the Fern Street water main replacement were expected to arrive the following Monday. They did, and installation of the new main was started.

Mayor Kent Andersen reported that the city engineer was setting up a meeting this month with various funding agencies around the state regarding a long-term plan that would replace nearly all of the water mains.

"There's some pretty old pipe," City Finance Officer Greg Pike said. "Some is too small."

Pike said the city plans to install 8-inch mains throughout the city, with even larger pipe planned along Camelia Street.

Andersen said the roads project will need to go to bid using the small works roster.
