Mary Lou Moreno
April 10, 1948 - April 8, 2015
Mary Lou Moreno, longtime resident of Moses Lake, Wash., passed away Wednesday the 8th of April after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Born Maria Luz Moncada to Ramon and Aurora Moncada on April 10, 1948 in Crystal City, Texas. Mary Lou was the oldest of 13 siblings. The Moncada family traveled all over the country as part of the tight knit migrant community. From the farm lands of North Dakota to the borders of Texas, back up to Washington.
In 1968 Mary Lou married George Moreno, who was introduced to her by her brother Whicho. Shortly after they were married their first son Michael Moreno was born in 1971. Through their 45-year marriage George and Mary Lou had five children: Michael, Mark, George Jr., Michelle and in 1984 Olga.
The Morenos enjoyed yearly vacations; camping in western Washington, trips to Mexico and Michigan, but most of all to her home town in Texas. Mary Lou was a fiercely proud Texan and enjoyed all it had to offer.
Mary Lou was lucky enough to have worked side by side with her husband George for over 20 years at Samaritan Hospital. You could always count on seeing them walking hand in hand to lunch. It was a highlight of her job to be able to interview new moms and seeing all the babies.
She was the rock of her family and loved everyone as one of her own. Not only her family, but friends of her children as well as her neighbors. Her door was never closed and her table always had an open spot for you and a basket of warm tortillas.
Mary Lou loved to dance, listen to music, and travel. But above all she loved to be with her family. Her grandkids meant everything to her and she was blessed to have had 14, with two great grandchildren as well.
Mary Lou will be remembered for her loving nature, open arms, excellent cooking, and unending strength.
She is survived by her mother, Aurora Moncada, husband George, her children: Mike and Cassandra Moreno, Mark Moreno and Cindy Corral, George Jr. and Kristin Moreno, Oscar and Michelle Hernandez, and Brandon and Olga Smith. Her grandchildren include: Micheal, Halie, Esprit, Yvette, Cody, Rylee, Annabelle, Scarlet, Ivy, Tino, Oscar Jr., Mya, Samantha, Jude, Harrison, and great grandchildren, Aundrea and Avery, and numerous brothers, sisters, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
Viewing will be held on Monday, April 13th at Kaysers Chapel from 3 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 14. With a rosary at 10 a.m. immediately followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Guarding Angels Cemetery and a luncheon at Fatima Center will follow.
