ROYAL CITY - The Royal School District Board of Directors ended the discussion of Superintendent Rose Search's future Monday by announcing that she will remain the superintendent through the end of her contract in June of 2016.

Search had been under fire by a majority of the district's teachers for months. The board had considered buying out the last year of her contract.

That led to board meetings that were well attended with patrons who wanted to have a say. The community was split.

"She has our support, and we ask that the Royal School District community to come together and support this decision as well," board members said in a written statement.

The board said it made its decision after in-depth discussions with Search and careful consideration of input provided by staff and the community over the last two months.

"It is in the best interest of the District and community for Superintendent Search to continue to serve as superintendent through the term of her contract," the board stated. "Superintendent Search has served the District effectively throughout her tenure and she will continue to provide that leadership through the end of her contract."

In their statement, board members said they are committed to understanding and addressing issues and concerns as they are raised by district stakeholders to ensure that students are provided an optimal learning environment.

"We also recognize that most issues are best addressed and resolved at the most local level possible," the board said. "We encourage all stakeholders, no matter your current role, to remain engaged in ensuring the success of our students."

The statement was unsigned, but attached to it were the names of all five board members, Bob Murphy, Warren Small, Craig Janett, Mike Noftle and Justin Brown.
