ROYAL CITY - Royal School District Athletic Director Andrew Perkins is asking district patrons to attend an athletic facilities workshop on Wednesday, April 8.

The meeting will be held in room 152 (one of the new rooms) at the high school. It will get under way at 6 p.m. Perkins expects a representative from each sport to attend.

Perkins is proposing a 3-5-year plan to upgrade all facilities. He needs input from coaches and members of the public. Maybe they've seen problems he hasn't.

"I have gone over all of the facilities and have seen areas that need improvements for aesthetics and safety," he said.

Perkins told the school board on March 23 that there is a plan for upgrades at the track and tennis courts. The question for tennis is whether to paint the courts or redo them entirely.

"Because of the timeline to renovate the track, I am asking the board to look over the proposal and possibly renovate the track this summer," Perkins said.

The timeline for track improvements would be June 15 - August 1. Neither spring nor fall sports would be affected during that time.

Perkins asked coaches to take a careful look at the facilities they use. Meanwhile, he has done, or is doing a walk-through inspection of everything, including the locker rooms.

Perkins said the workshop should last two to three hours. He expects members of the school board to attend.
