George Bluegrass Festival

| September 16, 2014 1:05 PM

GEORGE — The 8th annual George, Washington Bluegrass Festival got under way yesterday in the George Community Hall and Park, and it’s far from over.

The week-long celebration of a musical genre that is pure Americana won’t close until after a church service on Sunday. It will build all week toward several concerts Friday and Saturday on the GCH stage.

The town of George swells to bursting as the week builds. The community park and its surroundings will be dotted with camping trailers and motor homes and folks cooking out.

“We are anticipating an awesome week,” GCH board member Debby Kooy said.

The festival will feature weekend stage performances by bands that typify the best of Pacific Northwest bluegrass. And there will be bluegrass jamming throughout the grounds all week.

There will be no admission charge for any of the stage shows. However, there may be a tip jar at instructional clinics.
