MOSES LAKE - Cross country is an after school activity that is available for sixth, seventh and eighth graders.

Chief Moses Middle School students participated in this sport this season.

Every Thursday the kids traveled on a bus to places like Wenatchee, East Wenatchee, Quincy, Lake Chelan and Leavenworth to compete in a race. Sixth graders ran a distance of 1 mile, while seventh and eighth graders ran up to 1.7 miles.

The coaches; Jennifer Dennis, Robin Harrell and Stefan Troutman worked hard to keep the team under control and to improve the team's running times.

Last Thursday, the team went on the "end of season scavenger hunt" that is a tradition the coaches put on every year. Runners had to find clues at Lakeview Elementary, Garden Heights Elementary and Moses Lake High school.

When they received their last clue, it sent them to Burger King where a cold ice cream cone waited.

We would like to thank Burger King for their generosity. They made sure everyone received a vanilla ice cream, and were polite and respectful. The whole team was surprised and excited to get ice cream after running.

Tre Spencer, a seventh grader, said he would definitely try cross country again next year.

"Yes," Spencer said. "It makes me a better athlete, and it keeps me in shape for all the other sports I play."

Eighth grader Brandon Wood said, "I learned how to set a good pace, and loved running for three years."
