Bolyard will do a good job

| October 31, 2014 6:00 AM

Dani Bolyard is the best choice to represent Washington's 13th legislative district in Olympia. Here's one reason why.

Leading up to the 2012 Washington State Republican Party convention, Dani served as co-chair of the Credentials Committee. This Committee decides who gets to attend and who gets to vote at the convention. In a presidential election year, this is a big deal. I was also a member of the Committee, which met several times before the convention. The meetings were intense-a mix of passionate "newbies" and concerned "old-guard" Republicans. At the first meeting, which took place in Moses Lake, we even had a few hecklers in the audience.

As co-chair, Dani was in charge of running that meeting in Moses Lake. And we needed a skilled leader. There had been a surge in new activists at the various county conventions; so, we had more disputed delegates than usual. In a few cases, whole county conventions were being disputed.

Dani kept the agenda focused and room under control. We voted to allow the hecklers to stay as witnesses, if they behaved themselves. Dani made sure they did. She was hard when she had to be and relaxed, mostly to let people talk, when appropriate.

At the end of the day, the Committee resolved most of the disputed credentials. No one group prevailed completely; but everyone agreed that the process had been rational and fair. Dani had set the tone that the crowded room followed.

This state needs representatives like that-like Dani Bolyard-in Olympia.

One last note: At the State Convention, Dani was called up to the main podium to deliver the Credentials Committee's report.

Even though we'd resolved the biggest disputes, there were still some hard feelings about which delegates were allowed on the floor. After she delivered her report, Dani made the entire Convention sing "God Bless America." Twice. So that everyone would remember why we'd come together.

Send Dani Bolyard to Olympia as your representative. She'll do a good job.
