YAKIMA - Earlier in the season, Moses Lake volleyball put up a fight against then-No. 7 ranked West Valley (Yakima) at home. And although the team was swept, head coach Michael DeHoog was happy with the effort.

On the road Thursday, things were a little different.

After a even beginning to the first set, the Rams ousted the Chiefs quickly, winning 25-13, 25-10, 25-5.

"We started strong and it was actually really fun to be a part of for a little bit and then we just stopped putting pressure on them," DeHoog said. "Start reacting ... We wanted to come in, we wanted to pressure on them and we did that and then we kind of stopped."

With Wenatchee's 3-0 win over Davis Thursday, the Chiefs and the Panthers are now tied for third place in the Columbia Basin Big Nine at 5-5.

Before the two teams meet on Moses Lake's Senior Night the Chiefs face Davis and the Panthers face Sunnyside. Barring a major upset, Oct. 30 should decide third place in the conference.

"Pretty upset we didn't compete all the way through," DeHoog said. "We're at the point in the season where we just can't let that happen so we'll come back, we'll bounce back, we'll try and work some kinks out and see what we can do."

Ashley Sampson led the Chiefs in both kills and digs with 7 and 17, respectively. Marissa Strickland had 5 kills and Kylee McKay had 15 assists.
