Reader: Angus Lee has a 'highly motivated' staff

| October 24, 2014 6:00 AM

Grant County Prosecutor Angus Lee has brought the prosecutor's office into the 21st Century. The communication and cooperation between law enforcement, county commissioners and the sheriff's office has never been better. Angus Lee has assembled a highly motivated group of deputy prosecutors who know that job security is not assured without constant improvement and competence. Being a friend won't secure their jobs.

Reading some of the glowing testimonials about any candidate during a campaign is more and more an exercise in gag-reflex control. I am loathe to say there are claims that are outright lies...but, if the shoe fits. With all the various campaigns of the past 10 years that involve law enforcement, my experience has been the polar opposite of some claims in letters to editors. Even L.E.O.S (law enforcement officers) I've known for years won't discuss their viewpoints on candidates. The claims of eliciting candid comments from 'many' L.E.O.S is suspect at best.

Just as I have not always agreed with all the positions of local elected officials. I often can understand why they held to their opinions.

Some letters blame Angus Lee for gangs, metal theft, and criminals released after little or no jail time. Not a single comment about the judges who actually caused that. I also blame the parents and friends of the criminals. They are the enablers.

If we were to be saddled with a criminal defense attorney as our new prosecutor, would his uniquely qualified experience help mothers recoup child support? How about people driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol resulting in maiming or killing others?

Would they be aggressively prosecuted? If not, at least he will "restore confidence, trust and common sense," oh yeah, 'dignity' too. As if those things are missing from our current prosecutor.

Re-elect Angus Lee.
