Loaded apple, potato trucks collide

ROYAL CITY - No one was injured, but there certainly was the potential for injury last Wednesday morning when two trucks, fully loaded with farm commodities, collided on Road E SE.

The Washington State Patrol attended to the accident but provided no press memo. Memos are not customary after non-injury, non-fatal collisions.

But area resident Bob Fakler was on the scene within minutes. He took pictures and reported to The Royal Register.

According to Fakler, a fully loaded potato truck pulled onto Road E SE in front of his home. It was hit by a fully loaded apple truck coming down the hill.

"I think they were going pretty slow when they hit," Fakler said. "The apple truck left about a 100-foot skid mark."

Speaking to a Skone & Connors person on the scene, Fakler learned both trucks were hauling for but were not owned by that company.

Neither load was dumped, but the wreckage blocked traffic for three hours. It was cleared by private means.

"It looks like the potato truck is a total loss," Fakler said.
