Moses Pointe plans cystic fibrosis fundraiser

MOSES LAKE - Moses Pointe is continuing its efforts to raise funds and awareness for cystic fibrosis research.

The Moses Pointe Glass Quest, a scavenger hunt for hand-blown glass pieces, takes place Oct. 25. Proceeds from the event will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, said organizer Liz Porter.

The nonprofit foundation focuses on supporting the development of new drugs to fight cystic fibrosis, improving the quality of life for those with the disease and finding a cure. Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system.

About 30,000 people in the nation have cystic fibrosis.

Community members helped raise more than $20,000 for the organization this past summer during Moses Pointe's Summer Bash for Cystic Fibrosis event.

Porter said she and co-organizer April Adams wanted to hold another fundraiser for the foundation and eventually came up with the idea for the Glass Quest.

Attendees will check in at the clubhouse and receive a passport and a map of the property. The map will have different spots marked where the glass pieces might be hidden, she said.

"We'll have them hidden throughout the property and the clubhouse," said Porter. "People can walk or drive to the different spots and try to find the pieces."

Participants will also have a chance to win a piece by turning in their passports at the end of the event, she said.

The glass pieces are made by local artist Kathleen Parr.

Tickets are $5 each or $20 per car, said Porter. The Glass Quest starts at 10 a.m. and coincides with their Pick of the Patch shopping event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., she said.

Some of the vendors that will be present include Second Time Silver, Desert Beads and Rubbish Rampage. Porter said each of the vendors are donating a handmade item to be raffled during the day.

Proceeds from raffle ticket sales will also go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, she said.
