Time for change in the Grant County Treasurer's Office

| October 18, 2014 6:00 AM

I paid my property taxes Oct. 9, 2012.

I was concerned when I received my check and a letter back saying my taxes had already been paid. I called Grant County right away. No one would have paid my taxes. I was told some people just give money to help someone pay. Was told once the government was paid, there's no refund.

I told them I was keeping this check and letter in case I had any trouble with my taxes.

I received a notice from Grant County Treasurer's Office May 27, 2014 that I owed for my 2012 taxes and if they weren't paid by June 26, 2012, a interest and late charge will be added in the amount of $137.72.

The notice said, this delinquent amount due to a phone call from the person to let us know she had no interest in this property. Their big mistake. My property was not for sale.

A family member called Mr. Pheasant to find out what was taking place and see if I couldn't have more time to pay. If taxes weren't paid the amount was to be added on. His reply was, she received the check back and if she doesn't have the funds that's her problem. Interest and late charge will be added until paid.

I have lived in Grant County since 1969. We paid our taxes and never had such an upsetting problem before like this.

I agree with Mr. Edward, it's time for a change with someone who is more considerate and works for the public.
