Former court bailiff backs Lee

| October 17, 2014 6:00 AM

I wonder if the general population isn't getting tired of reading from a select few people about how wonderful and highly qualified Garth Dano is for the position of Grant County prosecutor.

After four plus years as bailiff in the superior court system in Grant County I have never seen any of the attributes described by these select people. I have seen Mr. Dano disrupt court processes by sitting at the defense table while other defense lawyers are presenting their cases, reading newspaper at the defense table, requesting the judge to rule on areas during short breaks while not on official docket, among numerous things. Does this show respect for the courts? Not in my book.

Statements from the select few saying how much Mr. Dano respects the law evidently does not acknowledge his 17 traffic tickets for offenses from excessive speeding to driving while license suspended (for nonpayment of ticket fines) along with other traffic offenses committed. The tickets are a part of public record.

Highly qualified attorney? Based on my personal observations while working in court, Garth Dano has yet to complete a felony trial without either turning the trial over to another attorney or pleading the case before completion. He had a mistrial declared which, upon re-trial the defendant was convicted.

For 30 years experience that isn't a very good track record.

Mr. Dano says the prosecutor's office needs "fixing," yet in a television interview he stated that with a 95 percent conviction rate the system isn't broken.

Before casting your vote for Mr. Dano, please do your homework and look at the real picture (and history) of the people on the ballot. Do not listen to the few who say he is a "wonderful guy and family man" and look at his actual performance record.

Compare that with Angus Lee's record and his record of community involvement in deterring crime. When you finish your "homework" you will realize that the only one actually qualified for the position is Angus Lee. I urge everyone to vote responsibly and honestly.
