Are Initiative Measures No. 594 and No. 591 designed to confuse?

| October 17, 2014 6:00 AM

Please vote no on Initiative Measure No. 594. A person should reject any initiative measure unless they have fully read and understood it. The full 18 page text of this measure can be found by doing an internet search using the phrases "Initiative Measure No. 594" and "FinalText_483.pdf".

Section 3 starts on page 7. It seems designed to criminalize the behavior of most law abiding citizens. Most people who do not have a law degree, or will have paid a lawyer to explain this 18 page nightmare, will recognize this law has nothing to do with keeping firearms away from people who desire to commit criminal acts.

Most people will not even attempt to read the entire measure. Those who do may get a headache as they try to understand the implications. On page 8, a temporary transfer "necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm" may be illegal depending on who is involved! Even handing a friend a pistol to examine in your own home could become a felony act!

Initiative Measure 591 is one page long. Section 2 of 591 reads " It is unlawful for any government agency to require background checks on the recipient of a firearm unless a uniform national standard is required." "Uniform national standard" could be construed as a law, agency regulation, or even a Presidential Executive Order. Any of those could then be used to claim the citizens of the State of Washington decided to abandon the protection of Section 24 of our State's Constitution.

Please vote no on Initiative Measures 591 and 594.
