ROYAL CITY - Seven people from Royal City and one from Othello were hurt late Sunday night when two cars collided due to a faulty left hand turn.

No alcohol or drugs were involved, the Washington State Patrol said. All Royal City persons were using seat belts. The Othello man was not.

The collision occurred just before 11 p.m. one mile east of Othello on Highway 26. Both vehicles, which blocked the roadway after the collision, were removed by Oscar's towing.

The Othello driver was 23-year-old Miguel A. Castillo III. He was injured and transported by private party.

Castillo was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban eastbound. He attempted to make a left hand turn onto First Ave. S, and his vehicle was struck by a westbound 2000 Ford F150 pickup driven by Gabriela Aguirre, 28, of Royal City. Injured, Aguirre was transported by ambulance to Othello Community Hospital.

The other six persons who were injured were transported by ambulance to OCH. They were all passengers in the Aguirre vehicle.

The passengers were Isela Aguirre Ruiz, 14; Ariahna Aguirre Ruiz, 5; Kevin Aguirre Ruiz, 10; Filomon Aguirre Renteria, 65; Rafaela Aguirre, 58; and Juan Aguirre Licon, 37.

The State Patrol cited Castillo for failure to yield.
