Chiefs score win over Grizzlies

MOSES LAKE - After a difficult two-match stretch last week, Moses Lake volleyball scored a crucial road win against Sunnyside.

The Chiefs swept the Grizzlies 25-18, 25-12, 25-12.

Although Sunnyside (1-7, 1-8) is at the bottom of the Columbia Basin Big Nine, the win was important as it kept Moses Lake (4-4, 4-6) in at least a tie for the fourth district playoff spot with Eastmont.

"We played probably the best three sets we've played," head coach Michael DeHoog said. "We strung three solid sets together. We earned a lot of points tonight, which is what we always try and do. Not rely on the other team to make errors. Just overall really happy with the girls and this was good for us."

Eastmont played Eisenhower on Tuesday and results were not available by press time. The Chiefs host the Wildcats Thursday at 7 p.m. in a match that will have serious playoff implications.

"They're a team that can sneak up on you and play pretty well and knock you off if you're not ready for them," DeHoog said. "We're going to try and focus in on tomorrow's practice and get ready for them and make sure we take care of business on our end."

Greta Hammer led Moses Lake with 9 kills, 3 blocks and 2 aces against Sunnyside. Marissa Strickland and Ashley Sampson recorded 8 and 6 kills, respectively. Rylee Cranston added 5 kills and was the team's most efficient hitter with a percentage of .500.

Setter Kylee McKay notched 32 assists and Sampson led the Chiefs with 10 digs.

Warden 3, Soap Lake 0

WARDEN - Warden kept pace in the Central Washington 2B South division with a win against Soap Lake at home 25-19, 25-10, 25-16.

The Cougars (5-1, 7-3) trail only White Swan in their division.

"The team played well tonight," head coach Dennis Treat said. "Defense and serve receive were very good during this match. The girls did a great job of communicating on the court. They were fun to watch this evening."

Shania Kisler led Warden with 8 kills and 25 digs. She also added 2 assists and 2 aces.

Leilani Pruneda had 6 kills, 7 digs and was 11 for 11 serving. Selena Landeros recorded 4 kills, 6 aces and 6 digs.

Allycia Gonzales and Andrea Contreras notched 7 and 6 kills, respectively.

Setter Laurissa Kisler had 15 digs and 24 assists.
