MOSES LAKE - The initiative of one deputy and the work of several led to the recovery last week of numerous pieces of property stolen during at least two recent Moses Lake area burglaries.

And one man was arrested.

According to Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones, thieves stole several firearms and other valuables during a Sept. 27 burglary on County Road A NE east of Moses Lake.

Acting on a suspicion of where the thieves might have traveled, a sheriff's deputy on Wednesday discovered a stolen go-cart on state game land about three miles southeast of Interstate 90 and Hiawatha Road.

The go-cart was believed stolen during a recent theft nearby. Deputies guarded the scene Wednesday night and assembled more deputies and state Fish and Wildlife officers to search the game land the following day.

Officers found two stolen ATVs stuck in the mud flats of a dry lake bed. They also found 18 firearms which appeared to have been carried away from the Road A burglary in a large wheeled cart.

In addition, deputies found a 1984 Oldsmobile which matched the description of a car seen near recent burglaries. Inside the car was Jarred T. Brockman, 18 of Moses Lake, along with evidence from recent burglaries.

Brockman was arrested. Deputies are recommending he face multiple charges of first-degree burglary, multiple counts of theft of a firearm and w multiple counts of third-degree possession of stolen property.

Brockman was taken to the Grant County Jail. The Olds was seized as evidence.

Detectives believe the property found Thursday is tied to reported burglaries in the Moses Lake area. As of Sunday, the investigation continues.
