Royal volleyball girls fall twice but spirits are up for team

ROYAL CITY - Royal High ran into two of the best volleyball teams in class 1A competition, and the results were predictable. The Knights fell in three games each to Riverview and Connell.

However, coach Paul Olsufka was pleased with the girls' efforts. They were not sulking afterward.

"The girls' spirit and attitude is good, with no letdown," he said. "They are battling each point to win the game and the match."

There were Royal highlights in the 13-25, 16-25, 10-25 loss to Riverview. Lindsey Small went 7-7 serving with one ace and seven digs. Ashley Valle served 7-7 with one ace and five digs. Alyx Ziegler had 8-9 serving with one ace and four assists

"Lindsey is playing well, and we are continuing to work on the fundamental skills," Osulfka said.

Small had a hand also in the 8-25. 5-25, 11-25 loss to Connell. She had perfect serving at 5-5 and scored one ace.

Valle had four digs and two kills. Kailee Harris served 3-3, and Alyx Ziegler served 4-4 with one ace and five assists.

"The girls are enjoying playing the game despite coming up on the losing end of matches," Osulfka said. "They have a great attitude, which I appreciate, and we look forward to getting on the court every match and giving it our all."
