Nathan Ball runs rampant in Moses Lake win over Post Falls

POST FALLS, Idaho - Moses Lake running back Nathan Ball has been on a bit of a hot stretch, to say the least.

492 yards and four touchdowns over the last two games, to be exact.

Ball followed up his stellar performance against Eisenhower with 240 yards against Post Falls Friday.

Behind Ball's tough running and a fumble return by Kaleb Riojas, the Chiefs bested the Trojans 31-14.

"We played pretty solid," head coach Todd Griffith said. "We won the turnover battle, which we hadn't done in a few weeks. That was a positive note."

With Ball's two monster weeks in a row, he now leads the Columbia Basin Big Nine in rushing with 822 yards.

"As long as we can get our pads on guys and not let guys run through he's pretty good at finding holes," Griffith said. "He's got a quick first step and he makes people miss. He's not a guy you can arm tackle."

Moses Lake (1-0, 4-1) led 21-0 at halftime behind two rushing touchdowns from Ball and another by quarterback Easton Castro.

Castro notched 37 yards on the ground and 43 through the air.

Post Falls put up 14 points in the third quarter to draw within a touchdown, but a Rehn Reiley's 16 yard field goal and a 55 yard fumble return by Kaleb Riojas in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach.

Moses Lake will now enter the bulk of CBBN play and will host Sunnyside Oct. 10.

"We still got a lot of things we can get better at and that's kind of where you want to be," Griffith said. "I told the kids Friday that I figured we could be at 4-1 at this point in time in the season and I knew we'd have a tough game against Coeur d'Alene and that could've went either way ... Putting in a new offense and not knowing kind of everything about it and having to learn on the fly, it's been an awesome experience learning with the kids."
