Moses Lake man gets 10 days for having gun, meth

EPHRATA - A Moses Lake man was sentenced to 10 days jail time for having methamphetamine, a drug pipe and a loaded, concealed handgun in his car following a February traffic stop.

Luis Garza, 27, was pulled over on Third Avenue by a Moses Lake police officer because he was not wearing his seat belt, according to court documents.

The officer immediately saw a large glass jar containing marijuana on the driver's side floorboard of the car, according to the police report.

While Garza was looking through the glove box for his proof of insurance paperwork, officers saw a set of metal knuckles and a box of bullets. When asked if he had a gun in the car, Garza said that he did and told officers they could get it, according to the police report.

Officers arrested Garza for carrying a concealed and loaded gun and while frisking him found a glass pipe with what looked to be methamphetamine residue on it, according to the police report.

Garza also had digital scales and more than $200 in his pockets, according to police.

While being booked in the Grant County Jail, the arresting officer found a small baggie of methamphetamine in his shirt pocket, police said.

Garza had no prior convictions and was granted first time offender status, according to court documents.
