ROYAL CITY - Royal defeated Wahluke in high school girls soccer, 2-1, last week to end the Warriors' early unbeaten streak of three games.

The win gave the Knights a 1-0 start in the SCAC. However, they lost, 1-0, later to Kiona-Benton to fall into a standings tie with Wahluke at 1-1.

Royal travels to Granger today, where prospects look good for a victory. Wahluke stopped Granger, 2-0, later last week.

The Wahluke contest was close all of the way. Both teams scored a goal in the first half, Royal's by Jacky Guadarrama.

The score remained 1-1 through the second half and extra time. The teams settled the outcome in a 4-2 shootout.

Royal's first four kickers scored. They were Flor Araujo, Jacky Guadarrama, Nalleli Arellano and Jennifer Ledezma.

The Ki-Be contest was fairly even and ended in a 0-0 tie after regulation. Royal had to go to another shootout.

"The girls played tough all match, and perhaps heavy legs played a role," coach Jens Jensen said.

Unlike the four kicks from the spot Royal made against Wahluke on Tuesday, the first four kicks were missed.

Only Araujo put in a goal, and Royal lost the shootout, 2-1.
