Voters should consider write-in candidate for Grant County treasurer

| October 3, 2014 6:00 AM

This being election time of the year, I would like to tell you about my experience when dealing with, in my opinion, the pompous arrogant treasurer of Grant County. Mr. Pheasant gave me extremely good advice when I was trying to pay my usage tax and license my mobile home in May 2014.

I presented Mr. Pheasant with my purchase Bill of Sale for a 1983 mobile home. He informed that I had made a good deal with my purchase. However, he told me I should pay fair value and he doubled the value of mobile home and charged me a late fee. I was immediately irritated so he told me if I needed to complain, I should take it the higher-ups on the chain.

I paid Mr. Pheasant $2,486 under protest to settle my obligation at that time. When I returned home, totally up-set, I made a few phone calls and eventually contacted the Department of Revenue in Olympia. They did in turn mail me a refund/complaint form which I filled out and mailed back.

I recently received from the Department of Revenue a check for $1,498 and an explanation that Mr. Pheasant had over charged me on both charges.

What amazed me, as I shared my opinion about being over charged, how many people have experienced similar interaction with Mr. Pheasant. Every time I talked about what happened to me, I heard two to three stories that parallel my experience.

Voter beware of the people you vote into office and who you want working for us. We do pay their salaries and should receive fair service, not being over charged. There is a write in candidate for treasurer and you should consider a change.
