Support for Angus Lee

| October 3, 2014 6:00 AM

I unhesitatingly support Angus Lee as Prosecutor. My experience with him stems from the murder of my former mother-in-law by her youngest son. Angus walked the balance of prosecuting my brother in law and championing the victim. He did so with competence, compassion, and respect.

I gained further respect for Angus when I noticed him a few months later at a vigil for victims of domestic violence. We were all there to remember those who had suffered violence at the hands of another. For me, it was to honor my beloved friend and mother-in-law, the grandmother of my three children. It meant a great deal to me to see him there.

As I bought the newspaper featuring the headline about Jack's sentencing, a bystander remarked that the sentence wasn't long enough. No sentence could be long enough, but we are a nation of laws. The difference in length of incarceration from a plea agreement and going to trial was 6 months. At the end of those years, six months is not going to effect change in attitude or remorse. What if a sympathetic jury had freed him from any responsibility? Then he would have gone unpunished.

I hope we continue to see the excellence Angus Lee brings to the office of Prosecutor.
