Moses Lake man sentenced for carjacking

EPHRATA - A Moses Lake man was sentenced to about two years in prison for stealing a man's car while brandishing a knife and kidnapping the man's girlfriend.

George Acevedo, 24, pled guilty to robbery with a deadly weapon last week in a plea deal after prosecutors agreed to drop the kidnapping charges.

The victim told police that in July an unknown man asked for a ride from a mutual friend's house. After agreeing to give the man a ride, Acevedo pulled out a knife, held it to the victim's throat and told him to get out of the car, according to the police report.

The victim's girlfriend was in the car and Acevedo told her to drive away, according to the police report.

She later sent text messages and called the victim throughout the day, telling him Acevedo took her and the car to Yakima, according to the police report.

The Yakima County Sheriff's Office found the victim's girlfriend and Acevedo and arrested them. The woman was arrested on an unrelated Grant County warrant, according to court documents.

Acevedo was previously convicted of making a bomb threat, burglary, malicious mischief and possession of a controlled substance in Grant County, according to court documents.
